The science behind PT-141
Bremelanotide is FDA-approved only as the branded Vyleesi injector, for low sexual desire in premenopausal women. Chia dispenses a compounded bremelanotide nasal spray, which is not FDA-approved; use in men or after menopause is off-label. PT-141 (bremelanotide) works through the brain's melanocortin system to influence sexual desire — a different pathway from erection-focused drugs. It's FDA-approved for low desire in women, with human-trial evidence behind it.
FDA-approved for low desire
In two phase-3 trials of premenopausal women with low sexual desire, bremelanotide significantly improved desire and reduced distress versus placebo — the basis for its FDA approval as Vyleesi (Obstetrics & Gynecology, 2019).
A brain, not blood-flow, pathway
Bremelanotide activates melanocortin-4 receptors in the central nervous system — acting on the desire circuitry itself, unlike PDE5 inhibitors (Viagra-class) that work on blood flow (Journal of Sexual Medicine, 2016).
Studied in men too
In men with erectile dysfunction, subcutaneous bremelanotide produced erectile responses in an early controlled study — an off-label, investigational use in men (International Journal of Impotence Research, 2004).
On-demand, well-characterized
Nausea is very common (around 40% of users) and flushing is frequent; blood pressure is monitored, and it is avoided in uncontrolled hypertension or cardiovascular disease (Obstetrics & Gynecology, 2019).

Clinically validated. Physician monitored.

"After two kids and a decade of marriage, desire had just quietly left the building. This is the first thing that brought back the spark of actually wanting to, not just going along with it."
Renee K.
"I was skeptical that a nasal spray could change something so mental. But it's not about plumbing — it's the interest that came back. My wife noticed before I said anything."
Daniel P.
"The on-demand part matters to me — I didn't want another daily pill. I use it before date night and it does what my doctor said it would."
Marco T.
"First time I had some nausea, so we adjusted the timing and dose. Since then it's been smooth, and the difference in how present I feel is real."
Alyssa M.
"I'd tried the blue-pill route and it fixed the wrong problem. This works on wanting to in the first place, which turned out to be what was actually missing."
Grant H.
"My husband and I did this together, both curious. It reopened a part of our relationship we'd both stopped bringing up. Worth the awkward first conversation with the doctor."
Priscilla D.
"Stress and antidepressants had dialed me down to zero. Under my doctor's guidance, this gave me back a baseline of interest I thought was gone for good."
Nadia F.

Frequently asked questions
PT-141 (bremelanotide) is a melanocortin-receptor agonist that works on the desire pathways in the brain rather than on blood flow. Bremelanotide is FDA-approved only as the branded Vyleesi injector for low sexual desire in premenopausal women. Chia dispenses a compounded bremelanotide nasal spray, which is not FDA-approved; use in men or after menopause is off-label and at your physician's discretion. In two phase-3 trials it significantly improved sexual desire and reduced the distress around it versus placebo (Obstetrics & Gynecology, 2019).
Erection drugs (PDE5 inhibitors, the Viagra class) work on blood flow — the physical response. PT-141 works earlier in the chain: it activates melanocortin-4 receptors in the central nervous system, the circuitry behind desire itself (Journal of Sexual Medicine, 2016). That's why it can help when the missing piece is wanting to, not just the mechanics. Many people find the two address different problems.
It's FDA-approved (as the Vyleesi injector) only for low sexual desire in premenopausal women. Use in men is off-label and still investigational: in early controlled studies subcutaneous bremelanotide produced erectile responses in men, but it is not FDA-approved for men and the evidence is not considered proven (International Journal of Impotence Research, 2004). Your physician confirms whether it fits your profile.
PT-141 is taken on-demand — roughly 45 minutes before intimacy — not every day. Chia prescribes it as a needle-free nasal spray you use at home, with the dose set by your physician. Because it's used as needed, there's no daily pill to remember.
Nitrates and nitrite inhalants. That means nitrate heart medicines — nitroglycerin, isosorbide mononitrate or dinitrate — and it also means poppers or rush (amyl nitrite, isobutyl nitrite, and similar). Combined with PT-141 these pose a serious and potentially fatal cardiovascular risk, and there is no dose or timing that makes it safe. Erection medicines of the Viagra class (sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil, avanafil) are a separate question: taking them alongside PT-141 significantly increases cardiovascular risk and needs individual clearance from your physician first. Tell your provider about all of these, including anything recreational — the intake asks, and the answer stays confidential.
Yes. PT-141 briefly raises blood pressure after each dose, so your physician needs a reading from within the last 30 days before prescribing, and cannot prescribe if it is above 150/95. A home cuff or the machine at any pharmacy is fine. Once you start, it's worth checking your blood pressure before and after your first few doses so you know how you respond.
Nausea is very common — it affects roughly 40% of people — and is often managed by adjusting dose or timing; flushing and headache are also frequent. PT-141 can briefly raise blood pressure, so it's not used in uncontrolled hypertension or known cardiovascular disease, and it's not prescribed after a heart attack, stroke or unstable angina in the past 6 months (Obstetrics & Gynecology, 2019). A history of melanoma or atypical moles also needs clinician review, because PT-141 acts on the same receptor family that controls pigment. Stop and contact your provider straight away if your heart races after a dose, or if you notice new darkening of your skin or gums. This is a prescription therapy reviewed and supervised by a licensed US clinician — not something to source unsupervised.
PT-141 may be FSA/HSA eligible with a valid prescription — check with your plan administrator. Pay with your HSA/FSA card at checkout and email support@chia.health if your administrator needs documentation. You can cancel anytime through your patient portal. Before your consultation, before your first shipment, or if a provider finds you're not eligible, you get a full refund; we also offer a 30-day money-back refund on unused monthly plans.
